St Canice’s School
Hutia te rito o te harakeke,
Kei whea te kōmako e kō?
Kī mai ki ahau;
He aha te mea nui o te Ao?
Māku e kī atu,
he tāngata, he tāngata, he tāngata
“If the heart of Harakeke was removed, where will the bellbird sing
If I was asked, what was the most important thing in the world?
I would be compelled to reply, it is people, it is people, it is people
St. Canice’s School is an integrated Roman Catholic Primary School for boys and girls from New Entrants to Year 8. The school’s primary aim is to cater for the children of the Roman Catholic Community of Westport and to provide Education with a Special Character supported by the whole school and parish community.
As a Catholic community we live and teach the values of Jesus Christ. These values are expressed in the scriptures and in the practices, worship and doctrine of the Roman Catholic Church
St. Canice’s School is committed to providing a holistic approach to learning and strives for excellence in education, encompassing Gospel Values in a Catholic environment.
St Canice’s symbolises our approach to educating our children using the harakeke.
Weaving the leaves of the Harakeke makes a Kite. Our leaves are our Catholic faith, our cultural diversity, our unique environment and history and the New Zealand Curriculum to enable our children to have a life full of respect, faith and success.
